dixie Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Great forum foks I have read many posts with interest and would like to thank all contributors, and ask for a little help at the same time. ;) I appear to have 2 problems and I don't know if they are connected, I can add pictures if requested. 1. Central locking (CL) with the remote key does not work I have tried re-setting using the instructions supplied here and in the manual but it doesn't cure it. The little led on the key does light when pressed so, I think the problem lies elsewhere. The CL light on the driver door is always on even when parked, locked and switched off. The CL does not open any of the other doors when the key is turned in the driver door either. The mechanisms all click but only the driver door opens, same for locking. 2. Passenger electric window does not work with either of the switches on the both front doors. However when the key is turned in the door and held both the windows open okay. So I guess the mechanics are okay. The driver window does work with the driver switch. Quote
Guest 3.5bullet Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 OK first thing, the drivers door LED is not a central locking indicator! it's primarilly used to tell you the condition of the PATS system and the alarm, although it is used as indicator for programming the central locking when you say the LED is always on? does it stay on permenantly or does it flash? as you say the passenger windows do not work from either door switches you may have two U/S switches or wiring faults in both doors? the fact that the drivers door lock does not operated the central locking seems also seems to point to either a loom fault or a central locking motor/switch fault? the fact that both windows work from the global system is a good sign as as you say it proves the windows do actually work :P the problem you have now is finding out why they dont work from the switches? some where on in one of my many AKA's ;) I posted the wiring connections for the window switches which should help you solve the problem? Vanbursta Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 I would check the wiring loom between the A post and the passenger door (look inside the rubber boot for broken wire(s)) and the central locking / alarm unit under the passenger seat in the well (is there any sign of water ingress?) Do your interior lights work? Quote
NikpV Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 definitely have a look in the drivers side door loom sounds like some broken wires which are causing some of your problems - look in the faq for some info removing the rubber boot and exposing the wires Quote

dixie Posted August 20, 2006 Author Report Posted August 20, 2006 Thanks for the replies, I'll check a few of these things first light tomorrow. The little red/led door light is on permanently excepting when I turn the door key to unlock or lock the door. It goes out momentarily as the door locks/unlocks. All the locks make a noise on turning the key but they don't open or close, maybe they are okay mechanically and some sort of power is getting to them to make the noise. Does the 97 ghia have infra red locking or is it something else I found the FAQ instructrions for exposing the wires at the doors but can't seem to find a wiring switch or wiring diagram for the windows. There didn't appear to be any water under the passenger seat at the alarm box but I'll check again tomorrow when its daylight. All interior lights seem to be working okay, as do all the lights on the dash. Just above the rear door on the roof at the center there is a little square hole which we thought was a damaged interior light as it had been pushed into the roof space. On examination it appears to be a sensor about matchbox size or slightly smaller and it appears to be okay (would this be this be the central locking sensor) In case its anything the battery was removed at some point and apparently everything worked before that. Tnks again Quote

Tnks again That does sound like the IR reciever? it maybe worthwile replaceing it before you attempt to reprogram the remote locking again? this may also explain why the LED remains lit at all times as one it's many jobs is also to indicate the condition of the OE alarm if fitted? you have several faults that can be linked together! try and solve one at time and move onto the next! you may find that cureing one may help with the others? dixie Posted August 21, 2006 Author Report Posted August 21, 2006 Hey what do you know a broken wire in the rubber door boot thingy. I took your advice and stripped the panel of the passenger door to track back the wires from the L/H motor and found the blk/yell wire totally sheared. I took some pics which may help others along the way (note do so at your own risk) :-)Second piccie is motor in behind speaker hole No sign of damage to the boot but a slight cut in the main red/yell wire. Anyway I joined the break together with a spare pice of wire and some insulating tape and hey presto the L/H window works from both switches.Sheared black yellow wire from rubber thingy and unplugged see FAQ for help with it I don't know if OE Alarm fitted but I think I'll try the other door tomorrow and see if theres anything there to do with the Central Locking. Any more ideas keep em coming.Pic of plug with added wire to be taped and door light eased off and unplugged Door handle cover and window switch removed The switch cover is gently lifted from the bottom end and slide downwards to remove. There is a screw just above the door handle and to the right near the top which has to be removed to allow door trim panel to come off. There are 11 or so plastic clips round the edge of the trim which need to be prised gently from the door to allow door trim removal. Do so at own risk :-) Thanks again everyone ... :) Quote
